The Hope College men's tennis team has flipped the script.
The Flying Dutchmen snapped a four-game losing streak when they started MIAA league play, and have now tallied three consecutive victories, the most recent on Tuesday against Calvin University with an 8-1 win. Both Calvin and Hope entered the matchup undefeated in league play.
Hope has improved to 3-0 in MIAA league play, and 5-8 overall.
Hope's first two points of the match were brought home by seniors Jacob Burkett (Clarkston, Michigan / Clarkston HS) and Cameron Coates (Stevensville, Michigan / Laurel Springs) at No. 1 doubles, and the pairing of seniors Tyler Stafford (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and Matt Henkel (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) at No. 2 doubles.
The Flying Dutchmen followed that up with a sweep of the singles flights.
Burkett clinched the match by bringing home the win at No. 1 singles after taking down his Calvin opponent 6-2, 6-1.
Stafford earned the win at No. 2 singles with scores of 6-1, and 6-4.
At No. 3 singles, Coates won 6-1 and 6-0, while at No. 4 singles Henkel took down his Calvin counterpart 6-1 and 6-4.
Junior Justin Fay (Naperville, Illinois / St. Francis) won 6-2 and 6-4 in the No. 5 singles slot, and sophomore Austin Becksvoort (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) finished Hope's scoring in No. 6 singles play with 6-4 and 6-0 wins.
The Flying Dutchmen's next match features Trine University at the VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts on Friday, April 7, at 2 p.m.
