The Hope College Flying Dutchmen men's tennis team put on a masterclass in tennis as it swept aside the Albion College Brits in a 9-0 victory on Saturday at the VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts.
Hope continued its unbeaten run in MIAA play with a convincing display, starting with a clean sweep of all three doubles flights.
Senior Jacob Burkett (Clarkston, Michigan / Clarkston HS) and senior Cameron Coates (Stevensville, Michigan / Laurel Springs) led the charge with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while senior Tyler Stafford (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids, Christian) and senior Matt Henkel (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) added another point for the Flying Dutchmen with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Juniors Justin Fay (Naperville, Illinois / St. Francis) and John Voss (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) completed the sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Flying Dutchmen continued their dominance in singles play, sweeping all six flights to complete a comprehensive victory.
Burkett cruised to a victory at No. 1 singles, winning with scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
Stafford was equally impressive at No. 2 singles, winning 6-0 and 6-1.
Coates added another point for the Flying Dutchmen with a 6-3 and 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles, while Henkel dominated his opponent with a 6-1 and 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.
Fay continued the winning streak with another convincing victory at No. 5 singles, winning with scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
Sophomore Austin Becksvoort (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) completed the sweep for the Flying Dutchmen with a 6-0 and 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
Hope heads to Kalamazoo College next on Saturday, April 15, for a matchup of the MIAA unbeatens beginning at 4 p.m.
