Kainan Bayn and Robbie Stuursma Headline Five All-MIAA Baseball Selections

Five members of the Hope College baseball team have received All-MIAA honors for the 2023 season, including two first-team selections: right fielder Kainan Bayn and center fielder Robbie Stuursma.

Three are second-team selections: utility player Spencer Cable, second baseman Nolan Gardner and starting pitcher Shane Hykin.

This is the second All-MIAA recognition for Bayn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East). The fifth-year senior was a second-team recipient in 2021.

A business major, Bayn batted .333 in 21 MIAA games with three home runs and 21 RBIs.

This is the first All-MIAA honor for Stuursma (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids).

The junior business major hit a team-best .337 in 21 MIAA games with two home runs and 15 RBIs. Stuursma also recorded a .983 fielding percentage in 58 chances with just one error.

This is the second All-MIAA distinction for Cable (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville). The fifth-year senior was a first-team honoree in 2021.

A physical and health education major, Cable batted .333 in 21 MIAA games and collected three home runs and a team-leading 26 RBIs.

This is the first All-MIAA recognition for Gardner (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids).

A senior and exercise science major, Gardner hit .306 in 19 MIAA games and totaled 12 RBIs.

This is the first All-MIAA honor for Hykin (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern).

The fifth-year senior tied for third in the MIAA in wins with a 4-1 record against league opponents. 

An electrical engineering major, Hykin posted a 3.90 ERA in 30 innings of MIAA play. The right-hander struck out 30 and walked 16.
