Luke Wierengo Earns All-America Honorable Mention Honors as a Long-Stick Midfielder

Sophomore long-stick midfielder Luke Wierengo
Hope College's Luke Wierengo has received All-America Honorable Mention honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association for the 2023 season.

The sophomore long-stick midfielder joins Jack Radzville '22 in claiming the distinction. Radzville, an attacker, earned the honor during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Wierengo (Northville, Michigan / Northville HS) excelled in his first season with the Flying Dutchmen after transferring from the University of Vermont.

With Wierengo's defensive prowess and ability to join the offensive attack, Hope won the MIAA Tournament for the third time in program history and played in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships. The Flying Dutchmen finished with a 13-6 overall record.

Wierengo topped Hope with 39 caused turnovers in 19 games and scooped up the second-most number of ground balls with 82.

Offensively, Wierengo chipped in 10 goals and four assists. He started 18 games.

Wierengo also earned All-MIAA First Team honors.

"Luke made an immediate impact," head coach Michael Schanhals said. "He was all over the field for us playing the wing as LSM, marking our opponent's top midfielder on defense and sparking transition after causing turnovers. He is an excellent athlete and teammate. We are proud of Luke."
