Women's Lacrosse Puts Eight on All-MIAA Teams, including Defensive MVP and Rookie of the Year

Eight members of the MIAA-champion Hope College women's lacrosse team have been voted to the All-MIAA Teams for the 2023 season by the league's coaches.

Five are first-team selections: MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and defender Delaney Kirinovic, MIAA Rookie of the Year and attacker Julia Brown, midfielder Molly Frederickson, midfielder Caleigh Randall and attacker Elena Salazar.

Three made the second team: defender Caroline Curnutt, attacker Juli Kirkpatrick and goalkeeper Maddie Yakes.

Kirinovic (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt HS) helped propel the Flying Dutch to the first MIAA regular-season title in program history. She is the first member of the Flying Dutch to earn MIAA MVP honors.

The senior public accounting and business major started every game this season and anchored a defense that topped the MIAA with a 6.14 goals against average in conference play. Hope allowed four fewer goals per league game than the rest of the MIAA.

A two-time captain, Kirinovic is a two-time All-MIAA selection after earning first-team honors as a junior as well.

Brown (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) burst onto the scene as a freshman and finished second in MIAA play in scoring with 36 points in league games, including the third-most goals with 24 and third-most assists with 12.

Brown is Hope's second MIAA Rookie of the Year in women's lacrosse, joining Hannah VanAlst (2016).

Frederickson (Alto, Michigan / Lowell) is an All-MIAA First Team selection for the first time. The junior midfielder and physical/health education major recorded 14 of her career 25 assists in league games and finished second in the MIAA in the category. Frederickson also added 13 goals in league games.

Randall (Lansing, Michigan / DeWitt) claimed All-MIAA First Team honors as a freshman. The midfielder placed fifth in the league with 38 draw controls while also recording 14 goals and three assists.

Salazar (Howell, Michigan / Hartland) repeated as an All-MIAA First Team honoree. The sophomore attacker and exercise science major tied for seventh with 21 goals in MIAA play while also chipping in four assists against league opponents.

Curnutt (Fishers, Indiana / Heritage Christian) earned All-MIAA Second team distinction as a freshman after contributing to the Flying Dutch's stout defense. Hope did not allow a league opponent to score more than nine goals this season.

Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana / Penn) made the All-MIAA Second Team after ranking eighth in the MIAA in assists with eight in league games. The sophomore exercise science major also scored 14 times against MIAA opponents.

Yakes (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) claimed All-MIAA Second Team honors for the first time as a goalkeeper. The junior neuroscience major topped the league with a 6.47 goals against average and a 62.4 save percentage.
