Football Finishes Second in MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll

The Hope College football team is projected to contend for an MIAA championship this fall.

The Flying Dutchmen placed second in the 2023 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll with two first-place votes and 11 points. Coaches could not vote for their own teams.

Hope received three fewer points than preseason favorite Alma College. The Scots, last season's MIAA champion, collected five first-place votes.

The Flying Dutchmen finished ahead of third-place Trine University by 14 points. Albion College took fourth with 23 points and was followed by Adrian College (27 points), Univeristy of Olivet (28 points) and Kalamazoo College (35).

Led by head coach Peter Stuursma, Hope returns three All-MIAA honorees from last season, including two-time selection and receiver Terrell Harris (Whitehall, Michigan / Whitehall HS). The senior is an education major.

A pair of two-time All-MIAA offensive linemen are back as well: seniors Dylan Clem (Stevensville, Michigan / Lakeshore) and Luke Marsh (Montague, Michigan / Montague).

Clem, a guard, is a civil engineering major.

Marsh, a tackle, is a special education major.

The Flying Dutchmen are looking to improve after posting a 6-4 overall record last season that included a 3-3 mark in MIAA play. Hope closed the season on a three-game winning streak.
