Women's Soccer Ties for Second in MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll

The Hope College women's soccer team is poised to be in the heart of the MIAA title race this season.

The Flying Dutch tied for second place in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll after totaling 18 points.

Calvin University, last season's champion, topped the nine-team poll with nine points and seven first-place votes. Trine University collected two first-place votes and tied for second with 18 points. Coaches could not vote for their own teams.

Adrian College and Albion College tied for fourth place with 35 points apiece. Kalamazoo College placed sixth with 40 points and was followed by the University of Olivet with 54, Saint Mary's College with 56, and Alma College with 59.

Led by head coach Leigh Sears, Hope is coming off a 10-5-2 season where the Flying Dutch took third in the MIAA standings with a 5-2-1 league record.

Hope returns three-time All-MIAA and 2022 first-team selection Jenna Mustapha on defense and two-time All-MIAA and 2022 first-team honoree Natalie Hammer at forward.

Mustapha (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) is a senior and a chemistry major.

Hammer (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) is a senior and a German and social work major.

Both Mustapha and Hammer were all-region selections last season.

The Flying Dutch also bring back a pair of All-MIAA Second Team selections from last season: forward Madison Holloway and sophomore defender Olivia Dieppa.

Holloway (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) is a senior and an exercise science major.

Dieppa (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) is a sophomore and an exercise science major.
