Another weekend brought another sweep for the second-ranked Hope College volleyball team.Â
The Flying Dutch defeated Illinois College 25-16, 25-13, 25-23, 25-17 and Illinois Wesleyan 25-14, 25-23, 25-21 at the Illinois Wesleyan Tri-Match on Saturday.Â
Hope improved to 11-0 on the season.Â
In the first match win, Hope took the first two sets before Illinois College took the third set.
The Orange and Blue rallied seven unanswered points to regain the lead in the fourth set.
Hope never lost the lead for the remainder of the final set, collecting three of the last four points on a kill by junior Addie VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and two Illinois College attack errors.Â
VanderWeide and sophomore Brooke Fox (Saunemin, Illinois / Pontiac Township) led Hope in kills, with each collecting 10.Â
Fox also grabbed 15 digs, second only to teammate senior Olivia Fiebing (Traverse City, Michigan / Central), who had 16.
Sophomore setter Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline) had a match-high 44 assists.Â
In the sweep of Illinois Wesleyan, there were five lead changes in the third set before Hope tallied the final three points of the match.Â
VanderWeide led Hope for the second time, reeling in a match-high 14 kills. The outside hitter also matched Fiebing for a team-high 13 digs.Â
Junior Alison DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian) and freshman Kamryn Burbridge (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) each had eight kills against Illinois Wesleyan.Â
Lee put up a match-high 34 assists.Â
Hope is back in action when the Flying Dutch begin MIAA league play on the road at Albion College on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
