Men's Tennis Drops Match at Lawrence Tech

The Hope College men's tennis team dropped its last fall match, 6-1 at Lawrence Tech on Friday.

The Flying Dutchmen (0-2) earned the doubles point by winning the top two doubles flights.

At No. 1 doubles, senior Austin Becksvoort (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian HS) and sophomore Ned Curley (Plymouth, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) defeated Carlos Patricio and Emilio Gonzalez, 6-4.

At No. 2 doubles, sophomores Cooper Nugent (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Rochester Adams) and Alec Maynard (Northville, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) topped Nils Hammarsten and Evan Morgan, 6-3.

At No. 3 doubles, sophomores Paul Schneider (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern) and Rylan Doden (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Blackhawk Christian) lost to Rafael Rezende Mendes and Takuya King, 6-3.

In singles, Curley fell to Morgan, 7-6 (3), 6-1 at the No. 1 flight.

At No. 2 singles, Schneider lost to Hammarsten, 6-2, 6-3.

At No. 3 singles, Nugent fell to Gonzalez, 6-4, 6-1.

At No. 4 singles, Doden lost to King, 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 5 singles, Becksvoort dropped a three-set thriller to Patricio, 6-2, 5-7, 10-7.

At No. 6 singles, freshman Karsten Patel (Birmingham, Michigan / Seaholm) pushed Juan Jose Escriba Pastor to three sets before falling, 6-2, 2-6, 10-4.
