Second-Ranked Volleyball Clinches MIAA Title Share with Win at Alma

The second-ranked Hope College volleyball team is repeating as MIAA champion for the sixth time in program history.

The Flying Dutch won at Alma College on the road on Friday in straight sets, 25-9, 25-11, 25-15, to raise their league record to 7-0 and earn a title share with one match remaining.

Hope (22-2 overall) leads second-place Calvin University, which is 5-1 in MIAA matches. The Flying Dutch can earn the championship outright with a win at Trine University on Friday, Nov. 8, at 6:30 p.m.

The MIAA title is the 16th in program history and the first in consecutive seasons since 2013-14. Hope also clinched the top seed for the upcoming MIAA Tournament with the victory at Alma because the Flying Dutch hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Calvin.

The Orange and Blue hit .352 as a team against Alma, while holding the Scots to a -.057 team hitting percentage.

Senior Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio / William Mason HS) led the Hope attack with 11 kills on the night.

Senior Alison DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian) fired off nine kills.

Sophomore Kamryn Burbridge (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) and senior Addie VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) each had six kills.

Junior Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline) tallied 34 assists for the Flying Dutch.

Senior Samantha Seib (Elkhorn, Wisconsin / Catholic Central) led defensively with a match-high 13 digs.

Burbridge collected four blocks for the Flying Dutch, while junior Ella Contant (Elmhurst, Illinois / York Community) recorded three.
