Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Alan Babbitt

Men's Basketball Pulls Away from Wilmington for Road Victory

Gabe Quillan made up for lost time at a pivotal moment for the Hope College men's basketball team.

The 6-foot-9 senior scored 15 of his team-high 19 points after halftime to spark the Flying Dutchmen to a 74-64 victory at Wilmington College (Ohio) on Friday.

Foul trouble limited Quillan (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) to four first-points and five minutes on the court.

Quillan played all 20 minutes of the second half and finished shooting 66.7% from the field (4-6) and the free-throw line (10-15). Quillan also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.

Hope, which evened its record at 1-1, overcame a 35-33 halftime deficit.

The Flying Dutchmen took the lead for good at 45-43 when sophomore Parker Hovey (Shelby, Michigan / Hart) buried two free throws.

The foul shots were in the middle of an 11-0 run that covered 3 ½ minutes. Wilmington (1-2) pulled as close as two points.

Junior guard Justice Mims (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Rochester Adams) chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds while shooting 50% from the field (5-10).

Senior guard Josh Decker (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / Woodridge) contributed two 3-pointers and 10 points off the bench.

Hovey, making his season debut, totaled eight points, a team-best five assists and four rebounds.

Hope outrebounded Wilmington by a 32-14 margin.

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m. at Wittenberg University (Ohio).
