The Hope College men's basketball team used a powerful first half to rebound into the win column once again.
The Flying Dutchmen, fueled by two double-digit point runs, ran away to a 79-69 win over Ohio Wesleyan University at DeVos Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
Hope (4-5) ended a two-loss streak by utilizing an 11-0 and a 13-0 point run in the first half and five three-pointers from three different Flying Dutchmen.
"We needed this one," Hope coach Greg Mitchell said. "We schedule up because we love the challenges it presents."
Hope sank two of its five shots from behind the arc, back-to-back coming out of the game's first media timeout, to go up 11-5 over the Bishops.
The Flying Dutchmen then embarked on their first double-digit point run, pushing the lead to 25-8, and shortly after, a second shut-out point run, 13-0, to grab a 42-20 lead with just under three minutes to play in the first half.
Hope shot 72.0% before halftime (18-25) while holding the Bishops to 32.1% (9-28).
The Orange and Blue doubled up Ohio Wesleyan in rebounds during first-half play, a 19-9 advantage.
Junior Justice Mims (Rochester, Michigan / Rochester Adams HS) led the balanced Hope offense with 15 points. Mims sank six of nine from the field and shot 75.0% from behind the arc.
Three other Flying Dutchmen had a double-digit performance against Ohio Wesleyan.
Senior Gabe Quillan (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) tallied 12 points, while sophomore Simon Neuhaus and freshman Brady Miller (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) grabbed 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
Miller and senior Sam Carlson (Superior, Colorado / Monarch) had a team-high four assists.
Sophomore Parker Hovey (Shelby, Michigan / Hart) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for Hope. Quillan secured eight rebounds.
Hope returns to the court for the inaugural Glenn Van Wieren Classic Tournament at DeVos Fieldhouse, Friday-Saturday, Dec. 20-21.
