Hope College linebacker Cole Luhmann and right tackle Dylan Clem have been selected for the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-America Teams for the 2024 season.
Luhmann (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek HS) is one of 11 first-team honorees on defense.
Clem (Stevensville, Michigan / Lakeshore) is one of 12 honorees on offense.
Both helped the MIAA-champion and nationally-ranked Flying Dutchmen record the first 10-0 regular season in program history. Hope also won the first NCAA playoff game in team history and will compete in the third round on Saturday, Dec. 7, at noon Central at North Central College (Illinois).
A total of 54 Division III football student-athletes received All-America accolades. The AFCA's Division III All-America Selection Committee is made up of head coaches representing each conference from each of the AFCA's seven districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee.Â
AFCA coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts prior to a conference call between the district chairmen and the committee chairman on which the team is chosen.
Luhmann, a 6-0, 220-pound mathematics major, led Hope in tackles this season with a career-high 76. Luhmann was also named the MIAA's Most Valuable Defensive Player.Â
The Flying Dutchmen proved to be one of Division III's elite defenses while allowing only 83 points in 10 regular-season games.
With Luhmann's help, Hope ranked in the Top Five in rush defense and total offense, and Top 20 in pass defense.
Luhmann is one of three first-team linebackers.
Clem is the Flying Dutchmen's third two-time All-American, joining running back Brandon Graham (1996-97) and tight end Todd Ackerman (1986-87).
The 6-3, 291-pound fifth-year senior claimed D3Football.com All-America Second Team honors as a right guard in 2023.
A civil engineering major, Clem did not allow a sack this season while helping the Flying Dutchmen produce a high-powered rushing attack that ranks in the Top 5 nationally at 3,207 yards during the regular season at 6.8 yards per carry.
Clem is one of five second-team offensive linemen.
