Women's Tennis Dominates at Lake Forest, Extends Win Streak to Five

The Hope College women's tennis team is gaining momentum at a key point early in the season.

With the addition of an 8-1 victory at Lake Forest College (Ill.), the Flying Dutch have not lost more than a single match in their head-to-head competitions this spring season.

The combined 41-4 match score through these five matches is Hope's best start to a spring season in the last 25 years. Hope is 5-1 overall.

The red-hot Orange and Blue kicked things off with a clean sweep of doubles.

At the top flight, sophomore Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) and Junior Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) churned out an 8-2 victory.

At No. 2 doubles, senior Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and junior Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) made swift work of their opponents with an 8-1 victory.

At No. 3 doubles, freshmen Madison Wei (Parker, Colorado / Regis Jesuit) and Phoebe Walker (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) closed the doubles show with a convincing 8-3 victory.

Hope kept the foot on the gas in singles play.

At No. 2 singles, Moran steamrolled Lake Forest College's Kristen Ahn en route to a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

At No. 3 singles Weeber picked up the deciding victory in a 7-6 (4), 6-2 battle.

Wei and Coffey each picked up straight-set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles by sets of 7-5, 6-0, and 6-4, 7-6 (5), respectively.

At No. 6 singles, sophomore Mallory Matthews (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory.

The Flying Dutch look forward to their spring break trip to Orlando, Fla, at the USTA National Training Center, where they will play five matches in three days.

Hope's first match there is Tuesday, March 12, at 8 a.m. against Sweet Briar College (Va.).
