The Hope College women's tennis team split the day in its first spring break trip outing.
The Flying Dutch topped Sweet Briar College (Va.), 6-3, in Tuesday's first match in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Haverford, which received votes in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division III poll, defeated Hope in the second match of the day, 7-1, to snap the Flying Dutch's six-game win streak.
Hope is now 6-2 this season.
Against Sweet Briar, Hope won at No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) and junior Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) knocked off their Vixens opponent, 8-1.
Junior Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) and senior Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) notched the 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles for the Flying Dutch to head into singles play with a 2-1 lead.
Two Hope match wins needed super tiebreakers at No. 3 and No. 5 singles with Weeber and freshman Madison Wei (Parker, Colorado / Regis Jesuit), respectively.
Weeber took the first set and then battled back for a 6-1, 2-6, 10-5 victory at her flight.
Wei, similarly, won the first set and took the flight 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
Lopykinski and Coffey took their matches at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively, in straight sets. Lopykinski defeated her opponent 6-3 and 6-2, while Coffey swung to a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Against Haverford, Wei brought home the lone win for Hope at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-3.
Hope takes on Bethel University (Minn.) on Wednesday, March 13, at noon.
