Men's Tennis Falls to NCAA Division II Davenport

Perennially challenging Davenport University downed the Hope College men's tennis team, 7-2, on Friday in the spring season home opener.

The NCAA Division II Panthers opened the match by winning all three doubles flights.

The Flying Dutchmen's two lone wins came at the fourth and sixth singles flights.

At No. 4 singles, freshman Cooper Nugent (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Rochester Adams HS) defeated Jose Brenes in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, and raised his singles record to 6-1.

At No. 6 singles, senior John Voss (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) topped Max Dion with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 showing.

The Dutchmen fell to 2-2 this year with the home loss, their ninth straight against Davenport.

Davenport improved its record to 5-1.

Hope will head back to the road on Friday, Feb. 16, for a showdown against the Thunder of Wheaton College (Ill.).
