The Hope College men's tennis team swept the competition at the USTA National Training Center on Thursday.
The Flying Dutchmen were victorious twice, with a 5-4 win over Transylvania and an 8-1 win against Edgewood College.
The battle against Transylvania was close, but Hope took the 2-1 lead into singles play.
Sophomore Austin Becksvoort (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian HS) and senior Justin Fay (Naperville, Illinois / St. Francis) snagged an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while freshmen Paul Schneider (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern) and Cooper Nugent (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Rochester Adams) gave Hope their second point with an 8-5 victory.
Three of six singles flights needed three sets, with the Flying Dutchmen walking away with two of those flight victories.
Transylvania jumped ahead, 3-2, after picking up two singles flights wins.
At third singles, Rylan Doden (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Blackhawk Christian) tied things up with a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 win.
Transylvania answered and grabbed a win in the fourth flight to regain the lead.
Nugent locked the score back up at four, with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.
Senior John Voss (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier) clinched the win for Hope in a three sat comeback victory, winning, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6).
Against Edgewood, Hope swept the doubles units.
At No. 1 doubles Fay and Becksvoort took care of business with an 8-2 win.
No. 2 doubles pair of Doden and Voss earned the 8-1 win.
Nugent and Schneider grabbed their second doubles win of the day, topping their Edgewood opponent 8-0.
The Flying Dutchmen finished singles play almost unblemished, with five wins.
Becksvoort, at No. 1 singles, won 6-1, 6-2.
In the third flight, Brendan Evert (Sterling Heights, Michigan / Sterling Heights) was victorious 6-1, 6-0.
Charlie Schmude (Traverse City, Michigan / St. Francis) picked up the win at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-1.
Hunter Napieralski (Chelsea, Michigan / Chelsea) won at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
In the sixth flight, Schmude took home the win, 6-0, 6-0.
The Flying Dutchmen finish their spring break trip on Friday, March 15, against Crown College at 10 a.m. and Trinity College (Conn.) at 7 p.m.
