Women's Lacrosse Falls to George Fox in Oregon Finale

Senior attacker Elena Salazar matched her season-high in goals, but the Hope College women's lacrosse team fell at George Fox University, 17-13, on Thursday night in Newberg, Oregon.

The Flying Dutch could not deter George Fox's second-half comeback.

Hope led 9-7 at halftime after Salazar (Howell, Michigan / Hartland HS) scored three times over the final 2 minutes, 49 seconds of the second quarter.

With 36 seconds remaining in the half, Salazar followed a goal from sophomore midfielder Sydney LaPrairie (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek) with a strike 25 seconds later.

George Fox (3-1) outscored Hope 5-2 in both the third and fourth quarters.

The Bruins' balanced attack featured four who scored four times: Ava Bluhm, Carleigh DeLapp and Olivia Geyling.

Senior midfielder Molly Frederickson (Alto, Michigan / Lowell) chipped in three goals, including two on her two free-position shots.

Sophomore attacker Julia Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) added two goals and two assists.

George Fox outshot Hope 37-33.

Senior goalie Maddie Yakes (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) made 11 saves for the Flying Dutch.

The loss snapped the Flying Dutch's two-game winning streak that included a 15-9 victory at Willamette University (Oregon) on Tuesday in the West Coast trip opener.

Hope (2-3) next plays on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. at home against DePauw University at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
