Baseball Drops Slugfest During Series Opener at Millikin

Sophomore leftfielder Brenden Collins delivered a season-high three hits, and junior third baseman Al Money added a season-high three RBIs for the Hope College baseball team during an 11-8 loss at Millikin University (Ill.) on Friday.

The defeat in a weekend series opener snapped a four-game winning streak for the Flying Dutchmen (5-8).

The series continues on Saturday, March 23, at noon Central with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Millikin.

Millikin (8-8) took an 11-4 lead by scoring four times in both the fifth and sixth innings. 

Catcher Ryan Janssen was the catalyst, hitting Hope with a three-run homer in the fifth and a three-run triple in the sixth. Janssen finished 3-for-6 with six runs batted in and two runs scored.

Millikin outhit Hope by a 16-12 margin.

Money (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow HS) went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, including a two-run single during a three-run ninth.

Collins (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Hackett Catholic) finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

Sophomore rightfielder Jace DeMann (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) added two hits and two runs scored along with one RBI.
