Women's Tennis Notches Third Consecutive Sweep to Open MIAA Play

The Hope College women's tennis team emphatically closed a nine-match road stretch with a third consecutive 9-0 victory on Wednesday at Trine University.

The Flying Dutch improved to 11-3 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

Hope will play its next match on campus for the first time since February 17. The Flying Dutch will host Adrian College on Wednesday, April 3, at 3 p.m.

Against Trine, the Orange and Blue followed a familiar pattern to start the match. Hope opened with a sweep of doubles.

At first doubles, sophomore Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) and junior Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) delivered for an 8-5 victory.

At second doubles, senior Annika Weeber (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and junior Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) wrapped up an 8-2 win.

At third doubles, freshmen Phoebe Walker (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) and Madison Wei (Parker, Colorado / Regis Jesuit) raced to an 8-1 victory.

For the third straight match, Hope went on to win all six singles matches.

Lopykinski led the way at first singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win.

Moran followed up with a 6-2, 6-1 win at second singles.

Weeber dominated at third singles for 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Coffey secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory at fourth singles.

Sophomore Hope Rhoades (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) stepped up for a 6-0, 6-2 victory at fifth singles.

Freshman Kamryn Dumas (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) secured her first singles victory of the spring season in a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) win at sixth singles.
