No. 32-Ranked Women's Tennis Tops Adrian 8-1 for Sixth Victory in a Row

The nationally-ranked Hope College women's tennis team returned home to the DeWitt Tennis Center for the first time since February 17 in victorious fashion.

The Flying Dutch defeated Adrian College, 8-1, on Wednesday and improved to 12-3 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.

Hope is ranked 32nd in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division III rankings.

The Orange and Blue continued its dominance of MIAA opponents while improving to 35-1 in league matches, including 12-0 in doubles flights.

Per usual, sophomore Amanda Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township HS) and junior Sullivan Moran (Birmingham, Michigan / Wylie E. Groves) led the way at first doubles with an 8-3 victory.

At second doubles, senior Annika Weeber (Rockford, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and junior Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) matched their teammates with an 8-3 victory of their own.

At third doubles, freshmen Madison Wei (Parker, Colorado / Regis Jesuit) and Phoebe Walker (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) earned the final point with an 8-4 victory.

Hope once again played a strong set of matches in singles play, winning five of six flights in straight sets.

Weeber was lightning quick in wrapping up the first singles points with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the third flight.

Moran followed suit at second singles, clinching the team victory with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

At first singles, Lopykinski fell to a late Adrian rally, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Coffey kept the wins rolling in with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at fourth singles.

Wei led for the whole match and closed out with strong serving to win 6-0, 6-1.

Sophomore Hope Rhoades (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) took home the final win of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at sixth singles.

Hope heads back to the road on Friday-Saturday, April 5-6, for the Midwest Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin.
