Baseball Pitcher, Women's Golfer Claim MIAA Weekly Recognition

A Hope College pitcher and golfer earned MIAA Athlete of the Week honors.

Junior Trent Johnson is the MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, while freshman Allyson Zuidema is the MIAA Women's Golfer of the Week.

Johnson (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow HS) hurled the Flying Dutchmen to an 8-1 victory at Trine University in the MIAA opener on Friday.

The right-hander and business major tossed a 103-pitch complete game that included five hits allowed.

Johnson struck out six Trine batters and walked two during Game 1 of a doubleheader sweep.

This is Johnson's first MIAA weekly honor.

Zuidema (Northville, Michigan / Northville) received the first MIAA weekly award of her career after claiming medalist honors at the Trine Spring Classic on Friday.

At Zollner Golf Course, Zuidema carded a 3-over-par 75 to top a field of 95 golfers.

Zuidema helped the Flying Dutch place second at the 16-team event and finish just one stroke out of first place.
