The Hope College women's lacrosse team has been unstoppable en route to a second consecutive outright MIAA regular season championship.
With a dominant 18-6 victory on the road over the Britons of Albion College on Wednesday, the Flying Dutch improved to 10-4 on the season and are now 6-0 in conference play.
Hope secured the No. 1 overall seed in the conference tournament with the win and will host a semifinal on Wednesday, May 1, at 4:30 p.m. at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
The Flying Dutch draw closer to the program's 100th NCAA victory, currently tallying 98 since the program's inception in 2013.
Head coach Keagan Pontious was very proud of her team's effort to get to this far, commenting, "It's awesome to be in this position. We worked very hard to get here."
From the first draw control, it was destined to be a record-breaking day for the Flying Dutch, as sophomore midfielder Caleigh Randall (Lansing, Michigan / DeWitt HS) scooped up her first of 13Â draw controls on the day.
Randall now has 114 draw controls on the season, eclipsing both the former single season record of 105 and landing her in second place all time for career draws.
Randall commented on the success of the draw team this season, saying, "At the end of the day, the draw comes down to one thing: trust. The draw is my favorite part of the game; for me, it's like a new puzzle to solve every game."
Hope controlled the draw and converted for the first of three goals in the first period by sophomore attacker Julia Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central).
Junior attacker Juli Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana / Penn) assisted on the fourth goal of the day as Hope took a 4-0 lead after the first period. The assist brought Kirkpatrick's career total to 60, matching the all-time record.
Kirkpatrick ascribes her success in assists to an unparalleled team chemistry. "I trust every single one of my teammates to catch the ball and get it in the back of the net. With that, the assists come naturally," she said after the match.
Hope's blistering offense raced to a 9-1 halftime lead, outshooting the Britons 26-4 through the front 30.
By the time the dust had settled, the Flying Dutch had scorched the Britons 18-6, led by Brown's second consecutive six-goal performance. In MIAA play, Brown is averaging 5.0 goals per game.
Brown also transcended her single-season goals record from last year, reaching a total of 55, and placing her at second most for a season, behind only senior teammate Elena Salazar (Howell, Michigan / Hartland), who notched 57 goals in 2022.
Salazar pitched in two goals and an assist in the victory.
Senior midfielder Molly Frederickson (Alto, Michigan / Lowell) matched her season-best effort with four goals, and added an assist as well.
Hope showed its depth as nine different players finished with at least one goal on the day.
Senior goalie Maddie Yakes (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford), Hope's all-time leader in saves and ground balls, stopped seven shots in a strong defensive effort.
Riding a six-match winning streak, the Orange and Blue will return home for Senior Day and the regular-season finale against Saint Mary's College, on Saturday, April 27, at 1Â p.m. at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
