Football Featured on 96.1 The Game Spring Spotlight

The Hope College football team, which recently finished spring practice, was featured by 96.1 The Game in Grand Rapids in the radio station's West Michigan college football roundup.

The two-hour show covered spring practices and previewed the 2024 fall season for Hope, Calvin University, Davenport University, Ferris State University and Grand Valley State University.

Co-hosts Bret Bakita and Jason Hutton spoke with Flying Dutchmen head coach Peter Stuursma and Dan D'Addona, who is sports editor at The Holland Sentinel and Northern Sports Team Leader for the USA TODAY Network Center for Community Journalism.

Bakita is the 96.1 The Game Sports Director and long-time radio voice of high school and college sports in West Michigan. He also teams with former Michigan State University basketball standout Drew Neitzel to call "The Rivalry" Hope-Calvin men's and women's basketball games for the schools' live stream broadcasts.

Hutton, the current Power Strength Training Systems local marketing director, previously served as the sports director for FOX-17 for 17 years.


The Flying Dutchmen will kick off the 2024 season on Saturday, Sept. 7, against Loras College (Iowa) at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium.

Hope opens MIAA play at defending MIAA champion and 2023 national quarterfinalist Alma College on Saturday, Sept. 28.

The first Hope-Calvin game will be Saturday, Nov. 9, and hosted by the Knights.
