Baseball's Trent Johnson and Robbie Stuursma Earn All-Region Recognition

Hope College baseball teammates Trent Johnson and Robbie Stuursma are claiming all-region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com.

Both received third-team accolades from both organizations.

Stuursma, the MIAA's Most Valuable Position Player this season, batted a career-best .349 over 39 games this season.

The centerfielder from East Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) recorded 22 extra-base hits while batting leadoff with team-leading 14 doubles and five triples. Stuursma also homered three times.

A senior, Stuursma shared team-high honors with 41 runs scored and collected 23 RBIs.

Stuursma went 22-for-25 in stolen-base attempts.

Stuursma delivered on defense as well, posting a .989 fielding percentage with 92 putouts, two assists and one error in 95 chances.

Johnson, the MIAA's Most Valuable Pitcher, topped the Flying Dutchmen in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts.

The junior from Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow) went 7-4 with a 3.28 ERA in 13 appearances.

The righthander struck out 55 batters and walked 19 in 82.1 innings.

Opponents batted .258 against Johnson this season.
