The Hope College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season with a 1-0 defeat to Carleton College (Minnesota) in the home opener at Van Andel Soccer Stadium on Monday.Â
Senior goalkeeper Kendall Robertson (Jackson, Michigan / Western HS) made two saves for Hope, which fell to 0-1-1 on the season.
Carleton, a 16-win team in the 2023 season, is now 3-0 after taking down two other MIAA opponents.
The Knights struck down Kalamazoo College, 1-0, on Friday evening, and won 8-1 over Albion College on Sunday.Â
Carleton prevailed with a lone first-half goal from Kathryn Kresse in the 39th minute. It was Kresse's fifth goal of the season.
Hope outshot its opponent 11-9, with 10 of those shots coming in the second half for the Flying Dutch.
"We made two adjustments at the half, with one of them being our attitudes and mentality," said head coach Holly VanNoord. "Just being more aggressive, challenging the ball more, and getting the attack mentality that it takes."
Hope is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. back on the road to take on Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
