No. 4 Volleyball Celebrates 2023 National Runner-Up Team, Sweeps No. 12 North Park

The fourth-ranked Hope College volleyball team was on point from the opening serve.

Playing for the first time in 11 days, the Flying Dutch jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first set against 12th-ranked North Park University and cruised to a three-set sweep on Wednesday at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Hope (9-2 overall) bounced back from a loss to second-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the Flying Dutch's last match on September 14 with a 25-14, 25-10, 25-15 victory against the Vikings.

Before the game, Hope's 2023 national runner-up volleyball team was honored with the unveiling of its banner in the rafters.

The Flying Dutch hit a season-best .444 as a team against North Park (10-2).

Hope also served eight aces while making only three service errors.

Senior Alison DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian HS) slammed home a match-high 11 kills with a .588 hitting percentage.

Senior Addie VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) chipped in 10 kills while hitting .450.

Senior Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) delivered nine kills and hit .563.

Junior Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline) directed the offense and finished with 40 assists.

Senior Samantha Seib (Elkhorn, Wisconsin / Catholic Central) collected a team-best 18 digs.

Hope returns to action this weekend at the Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. 

On Friday, Sept. 27, the Flying Dutch face third-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 1 p.m. and Transylvania at 7 p.m. 

On Saturday, Sept. 28, Hope plays Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio) at 1 p.m.
