Nationally-Ranked Women's Basketball Takes Care of Business at Alma

The Hope College women's basketball team took care of the ball — and business — on the road on Saturday.

The nationally-ranked Flying Dutch matched their season-low in turnovers and sank their third-most number of free throws in a game to earn an 80-67 victory at Alma College.

Hope — ranked 19th by D3hoops.com and 24th by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association — improved to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in MIAA play with its second consecutive victory.

The Flying Dutch committed only nine turnovers, matching their season-best total against Saint Mary's College on December 14.

Hope also sank 22 free throws at a 75.9% rate, trailing only the 34 made in the season opener against Wilmington College (Ohio) and 26 at Calvin on January 4.

Freshman Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic HS) scored a team-high 17 points for the Flying Dutch on 70% field-goal shooting (7-10). The guard sank a season-high three 3-pointers.

Senior guard Olivia Bellows (Lake City, Michigan / Lake City) recorded her team-best eighth game in double figures with 15 points.

Senior guard Jada Garner (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) chipped in 13 points and a game-high four assists.

Junior forward Sydney Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) added 11 points.

The Flying Dutch never trailed throughout the game and built a 24-8 lead during the first quarter.

Hope also eclipsed 20 points during the second and third quarters for a 69-44 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

The Flying Dutch's next game is Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 5:30 p.m. against Adrian College at DeVos Fieldhouse.
