First-Half Blizzard of Points Propels Women's Basketball Past Adrian

Like snowfall this week, first-half points kept falling and falling for the nationally-ranked Hope College women's basketball team.

The Flying Dutch accumulated their highest-scoring half of the season against Adrian College on Wednesday and raced their way to a 97-46 victory at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Hope — ranked 16th by D3hoops.com and No. 22 by Women's Basketball Coaches Association polls this week — upped its record to 14-3 overall.

The Flying Dutch won for the third consecutive time and finished the first half of MIAA play one game out of first place with a 7-1 league record.

Hope never trailed after opening the game on a 7-0 run. The Flying Dutch led 34-7 after the first quarter and 62-16 at halftime.

In the first half, Hope shot 63.8% from the field (23-36) and 77.8% from 3-point range (7-9). The Flying Dutch missed only three shots from the floor during the second quarter.

Freshman guard Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic HS) led five Flying Dutch in double figures with 15 points.

Senior guard Olivia Bellows (Lake City, Michigan / Lake City) chipped in 14 points.

Freshman forward Leah Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) added 11 points.

Senior guard Jada Garner (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow) and freshman forward Maddie Petroelje (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) scored 10 points apiece.

Freshman guard Sarah LaPrairie (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek) contributed a career-high eight points.

Adrian's Aubrie Ickes netted a team-high 14 points. The Bulldogs fell to 4-13 overall (3-5 MIAA).

Hope's next game is Saturday, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m. against The University of Olivet at DeVos Fieldhouse. It is Poster Day and will feature post-game autographs.
