Women's Soccer Rallies Past Alma for Come-From-Behind Road Victory

The Hope College women's soccer team staged a furious comeback, scoring twice in the second half to earn a 2-1 victory at Alma College on Friday.

Junior Ainsley Harris delivered the game-winning goal with less than eight minutes remaining, lifting the Flying Dutch to a 2-0 start in MIAA play.

Hope (7-2-2) also extended its unbeaten streak to five games, with four wins and one tie.

The Flying Dutch rallied after falling behind 4 minutes, 56 seconds into the match, when Emily Ahearn scored her fourth goal of the season for the Scots (7-4, 0-2 MIAA).

Hope pulled even 13 minutes into the second half.

Senior Lauren Ellinger (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern) buried a rebound in the far corner for her second goal of the season. Senior Lina Rea (Macomb, Michigan / Utica) took the original shot near the center of the goal area and recorded her second assist of the season.

Despite a significant edge in shots, the score remained tied deep into the second half.

After an Alma foul near midfield, sophomore Adelyn Raad (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) sent a long free kick toward the goal. Freshman Joanna Namel (South Lyon, Michigan / St. Catherine of Siena Academy) headed the ball to Harris (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian).

Harris blasted a shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.

The Flying Dutch finished with a 20-3 advantage in shots.

Hope's next game is the Purple Community Game at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, against Albion College at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. Proceeds benefit Van Andel Institute and support internships for Hope students at the institute in Grand Rapids.
