Men's Soccer Falls to Calvin in MIAA Tournament Final

The Hope College men's soccer team left everything on the field Saturday night at Van Andel Soccer Stadium, battling through 90 minutes of high-intensity play in the MIAA Tournament Championship before falling 2-0 to rival Calvin University.

With the conference tournament title and the auto-bid into the NCAA Tournament berth on the line, the Flying Dutchmen (11-6-2) created several dangerous moments but couldn't find the finishing touch against the Knights' back line and goalkeeper Zac Moore.

Calvin broke through against the MIAA regular-season champions in the 26th minute, converting a low cross from the left side that found Toby Simeoni for a six-yard finish.

The Knights added a late insurance goal in the 89th minute, again from Simeoni, to seal the match.

Hope responded with energy and precision, firing 15 total shots, three of them on frame.

Senior Seth Walters (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph HS) led the offensive effort with five shots, while sophomore Ryker Corstange (Richland, Michigan / Gull Lake) added two.

In goal, sophomore Daniel Morgan (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) anchored a resilient Hope defense, making seven saves and commanding his box with confidence throughout the evening.

The Flying Dutchmen await the NCAA Selection Show for a chance at an At-Large bid into the NCAA Tournament on Monday, Nov. 10, at 11:30 a.m.
