Women's Lacrosse Seizes Control in Fourth Quarter, Wins at DePauw

The Hope College women's lacrosse team tamed the Tigers of DePauw University (Indiana) down the stretch on Saturday, riding a fourth-quarter burst to a 17-13 road victory.

The Flying Dutch scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter to break open a close non-league game and improve to 4-4 on the season.

Four different goal scorers struck over eight minutes to extend Hope's lead to 16-11 with 3 minutes, 42 seconds remaining.

Junior Julia Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central HS) ignited the decisive stretch at the 11:32 mark, delivering her team-leading fifth goal of the game and her 31st of the season.

It also marked Brown's 150th career goal. The attacker is the second in program history to accomplish the feat, along with former teammate Elena Salazar '24, who is first all-time with 196 goals.

Three minutes later, senior Kerrigan Brown (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) delivered her second goal. Then, senior Juli Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana / Penn) made it 15-11 with her second goal with 5:42 remaining.

The Flying Dutch also received a two-goal game from freshman Elliana Hillard (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt).

Hope stretched the lead to 16-11 at the 3:42 mark on a man-up goal from freshman Madison Pyle (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford), her first on the day.

Junior Stella Bottum (Alto, Michigan / Caledonia) closed the scoring by netting her third goal with 32 seconds remaining. Bottom shared team-high assists honors with Kerrigan Brown after finishing with two.

Hope's next game is the MIAA opener on Saturday, April 5, at 1 p.m. at home against Adrian College at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
