Despite fighting off drizzling rain, the Hope College women's tennis team brought the heat at Calvin University on Saturday and completed a perfect start to an MIAA title defense.
The commanding 6-1 victory marked the third consecutive MIAA victory of the week for the Flying Dutch and the ninth victory overall.
Senior Miyako Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier HS) delivered an epic singles performance at the fourth flight, rallying to take the final two sets, including 14-12 in the third-set tiebreaker 14-12.
Sophomore Madison Wei (Parker, Colorado / Regis Jesuit) also battled through a three-set tiebreaker in her match at No. 5 singles, triumphing 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
Hope (9-5 overall) steps away from league matches next week, getting back on the court for the Midwest Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 4-5, in Madison, Wisconsin.Â
