Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past NACC Preseason Favorite Aurora in Home Opener

A slick and soggy afternoon, as well as a formidable opponent, proved no match for the Hope College women's lacrosse team.

The Flying Dutch dominated from the opening draw control, shutting out Aurora University (Illinois) in the first half and cruising to a 13-3 victory against the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference preseason favorites at Tuesday's home opener.

Hope, the MIAA preseason favorite, upped its record to 2-1 despite playing for the third time in five days.

Junior attacker Julia Brown (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central HS) scored a game-high and season-high five goals for the Flying Dutch.

Junior midfielder Caleigh Randall (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) chipped in a season-high three goals and one assist.

Randall struck for the game's first two goals, scoring 1 minute, 10 seconds into the first quarter and again 4:10 later.

Senior attacker Kerrigan Brown (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) set up Randall's first goal and finished with a season-high three assists.

Hope led 5-0 after the first quarter and 9-0 at halftime. The Flying Dutch shut out an opponent in the first half for the first time since a 15-3 victory at Adrian College on April 10, 2024.

Five more goal scorers delivered for Hope: senior Juli Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana / Penn), junior midfielder Sydney LaPrairie (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek), freshman midfielder Ireland Brown (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt), freshman midfielder Elliana Hillard (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) and freshman attacker Madison Pyle (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford).

The goals were the first at the collegiate level for Ireland Brown, Hillard and Pyle.

The Flying Dutch outshot Aurora (1-3) by a 28-9 margin.

Junior goalkeeper Samantha Smith (Westfield, Indiana / Westfield) made five saves for Hope.

The Flying Dutch's next game is also at home, on Saturday, March 8, at noon at Van Andel Soccer Stadium against the University of Mount Union (Ohio).
