No. 8 Volleyball Drops Showdowns to Two Top-5 Ranked Foes

The eighth-ranked Hope College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Top-5 ranked opponents on Saturday in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The Flying Dutch lost to No. 5 University of La Verne (California) in four sets, then No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in three.

Two Hope teammates were named to the all-tournament team: senior setter Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline) and sophomore middle blocker Olivia Wyma (Hartland, Wisconsin / Arrowhead).

The Flying Dutch (4-4) next play on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh before heading to Washington, D.C., for the Gallaudet University tournament on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 19-20.

Hope lost to unbeaten La Verne, 25-20, 12-12, 25-27, 27-25. 

Three Flying Dutch collected double-digit kills: junior middle hitter Kamryn Burbridge (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) with 15, senior outside hitter Brooke Fox (Saunemin Township, Illinois / Pontiac Township) with 14 and freshman outside hitter Kiera Morrison (Bartlett Township, Illinois / Wheaton Academy) with 12.

Lee totaled 49 assists.

Hope fell to Oshkosh, 25-12, 25-21, 25-20. Burbridge had a team-best eight kills, Lee 22 assists.
