Football Remains Ranked 15th in AFCA and D3football National Polls

The Hope College football team remained ranked 15th in this week's American Football Coaches Association and D3football polls.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 3-0 on Saturday by defeating Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio), 31-28, during the Hope Athletics Orange and Blue Weekend home opener at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium.

In the AFCA rankings, Hope totaled 557 points, 145 more than 16th-place Wheaton College (Illinois) and Trinity University (Texas). North Central College (Illinois) topped the poll as a unanimous favorite with 1,300 points.

In the D3football rankings, the Flying Dutchmen collected 251 points — 10 more than No. 16 Mary Hardin Baylor University (Texas). North Central finished first with 621 points and 22 of 25 possible first-place votes.

Hope's next game is the MIAA opener on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. vs. Alma College (1-2) at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium.

The Flying Dutchmen are the defending MIAA champions. Alma was the preseason favorite in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
