The Hope College women's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit on Saturday, falling 3-1 to St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
Hope is now 2-2 on the season.Â
The Oles struck early, netting two goals just 2 1/2 minutes apart to seize a quick 2-0 lead.Â
Hope answered in the 16th minute when senior Olivia Dieppa (Hudsonville, Michigan / Husdonsville. HS) broke through for her first goal of the season.Â
Dieppa's right-footed shot from the left side of the box deflected off a defender and spun into the high right corner of the net, with senior Lina Rea (Macomb, Michigan / Utica) credited with the assist.
Hope pressed for an equalizer before halftime and into the second half, but St. Olaf extended its advantage with a third goal in the 58th minute to put the match out of reach.
Junior goalkeeper Clara Feenstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) made six saves for the Flying Dutch.
Hope stays on the road to take on the Illinois Institute of Technology on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. CT.
