Men's Soccer Rolls to 10-0 Win over Franklin

The Hope College men's soccer team rolled to a 10–0 win at Franklin College on Monday night, earning its second victory of the season with a relentless attack and a strong defensive effort.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 2-3 overall with their highest-scoring game since a 10-2 victory at home vs. then Olivet College during the 2001 season.

Hope struck first in the 12th minute when sophomore Ryker Corstange (Richland, Michigan / Gull Lake HS) put away the opening goal. Less than 15 minutes later, fifth year Matt Davidson (Grand Ledge, Michigan / Grand Ledge) doubled the lead with a strike in the 25th minute.

The Flying Dutchmen continued to build momentum midway through the first half with goals from sophomore Benjamin Smitley (Wyoming, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic) and junior Micah Wieland (Bristol, Indiana / Northridge) to make it 4-0.

The half closed with two goals from sophomore Jackson Mindling (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian), who sent Hope into halftime with a 6-0 advantage.

Mindling completed his hat trick early in the second half with a goal in the 57th minute.

Junior Seth Walters (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph) converted a penalty kick two minutes later to stretch the margin to 8-0.

Hope's attack stayed sharp late as Wieland netted his second goal of the evening in the 75th minute, and junior Josh Reyes (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Oakland Christian) capped the scoring in the 79th minute off an assist from Wieland.

The Flying Dutchmen outshot Franklin, 28-2, including a 21-2 edge in shot on goal. Hope also held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Goalkeepers senior Cooper Hutt Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) and sophomore Daniel Morgan (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian) combined for the shutout, each recording one save.

Hope's next game is Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. Central at Benedictine University.
