A dominant afternoon for the ninth-ranked Hope College women's basketball team on Saturday delivered a 104-43, bounce-back win over The University of Olivet.
The matchup was effectively decided within the opening minutes when the Flying Dutch set a new DeVos Fieldhouse record for fewest points allowed in a quarter with two, taking a 31-2 lead into the second quarter. The mark surpassed the previous record from 2020 during the NCAA Tournament when Hope allowed just three points against Grove City College.
With the win, Hope moved to 12-2 overall and 5-1 in MIAA play after falling at Trine University on Wednesday.
It was the 41st time the Flying Dutch eclipsed 100 points in a game.
Hope's blistering start defined the game. The Flying Dutch shot a remarkable 72.2% from the field in the first quarter, racing out to a 31–2 lead behind crisp ball movement, relentless defensive pressure, and balanced scoring. Olivet (2-12, 0-6 MIAA) shot 6.25% in the field quarter (1-16).
By halftime, Hope held a commanding advantage and led 51–18.
The depth of the roster was on full display as Hope's bench contributed 60 of the team's 104 points.
The scoring effort was led by sophomore Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic HS), who poured in 18 points on near-perfect shooting (7–8 field goals, 3–3 from 3-point range).
Junior Chloe Brunsberg (Chaska, Minnesota / Southwest Christian) added 15 points off the bench, continuing the theme of overwhelming depth, while sophomore Maddie Petroelje (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) chipped in 11 points and a pair of threes.
Sophomore Leah Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) paced the team with four assists, sharing that mark with freshman Josie DeSmit (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville), while four different players pulled down four rebounds each: Anna Richards, Leah Richards, Brunsberg, and senior Lauren Leach (Angola, Indiana / Angola).
Hope returns to the floor on Wednesday, Jan. 14, traveling to Adrian College for a 7 p.m. matchup.
