Kathryn Oates, Volleyball Dig Another MIAA Victory vs. Olivet

Milestone-reaching Kathryn Oates and the Hope College volleyball team dug another winning outcome on the court.

The Flying Dutch topped The University of Olivet in three sets on Wednesday at DeVos Fieldhouse, building off the momentum of a five-set victory against top-ranked and defending national champion University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday.

Oates, a libero, contributed to Hope's third MIAA victory in as many tries by totaling a team-high 14 digs. The senior from Liberty Township, Ohio (Cincinnati Christian), continued her strong play on the back row after reaching the 1,000-career dig mark last season.

Hope (14-6 overall) never trailed at any point before defeating the Comets, 25-12, 25-14, 25-15. The Flying Dutch scored the first set's first six points, the second set's first three points, and the third set's first two points.

Outside hitter Kiera Morrison (Bartlett, Illinois / Wheaton Academy) led a balanced offensive attack with 10 kills

Middle hitter Kamryn Burbridge (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) delivered nine kills and a game-high four blocks.

Outside hitter Angie Butler (Novi, Michigan / Mercy), the reigning MIAA Volleyball Athlete of the Week, collected six kills.

Setter Brooke Hehl (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Lutheran Northwest), the reigning MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week, directed the Orange and Blue with 30 assists.

Defensive specialist Amelia Gagnon (Belmont, Michigan / Grand Rapids West Catholic) served a game-high four aces.

Hope returns to action on Friday, Oct. 16, at 5 p.m. at home against Saint Mary's College at DeVos Fieldhouse. The game is part of One Big Weekend campus, celebrating homecoming and family weekend.
