Men’s Soccer Rolls Past Olivet

The Hope College men's soccer team enjoyed a sunny afternoon away from home on Tuesday, charging to a 4-0 victory at The University of Olivet.

Four different goal scorers drove the Flying Dutch to a commanding effort after four consecutive one-goal finishes against the Comets.

Hope improved to 9-3-2 overall and 2-1-2 in MIAA play.

"I'm really proud of our team's overall performance today," head coach David Blahnik said. "Playing Olivet on the road has been a tough match for us recently, and I thought the guys executed the game plan exactly as they needed to today.  Any time we can have four different goal scorers, all scoring in different ways, you can feel good about the team's depth and ability to adjust appropriately to the changes in the game."

Junior Jackson Mindling (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) opened the scoring in the ninth minute with his eighth goal of the season. The forward maneuvered Olivet defender after tracking down a long pass from senior Caden Chenlo (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) before launching the ball into the top left corner of the net from 15 yards out.

Nine minutes later, junior forward Ryker Corstange (Richland, Michigan / Gull Lake) struck from 10 yards out. Senior midfielder Evan Tsandes (Park City, Utah / Park City) and senior forward Seth Walters (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph) created a clear run for Corstange's seventh goal of the season. Tsandes sent a long roller from midfield that Walters flicked to a charging Corstange.

The Flying Dutch extended their lead to 3-0 before halftime. Freshman midfielder Rayden Dominguez (Skokie, Illinois / Loyola Academy) launched a blast from 17 yards out in the 42nd minute for his second goal of the season.

Tsandes netted his first career goal in the 74th minute by burying a penalty kick following an Olivet foul in the penalty area.

Hope outshot Olivet, 23-6. Senior goalkeeper Cooper Hutt (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) made two saves for his fourth shutout of the season. Olivet fell to 6-6 overall and 0-5 in MIAA play.

The Flying Dutch will next host second-place Kalamazoo College on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. at Van Andel Soccer Stadium for Senior Day and Poster Day.
