Women's Lacrosse Scores First Eight Goals Again, Wins at Piedmont

The high-scoring Hope College women's lacrosse team tamed the Lions of Piedmont University on Monday, pouncing to an 8-0 lead before winning, 23-9, in Demorest, Georgia, near Atlanta.

The Flying Dutch scored the game's first eight goals for the second time this season, equaling the feat from a 17-5 victory against Kenyon College on March 11 on home turf at Van Andel Stadium.

Hope improved to 6-1 overall behind a season-best offensive effort. The Orange and Blue have outscored opponents by a 114-63 margin this season.

The Flying Dutch topped their previous high of 20 goals against DePauw University after receiving four-goal efforts from three attackers: senior Julia Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central), sophomore Elliana Hillard (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt), and sophomore Sarah Rott (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Catholic Central).

Rott also chipped in four assists to finish with a team-high eight points.

Hope took only the first 12 ½ minutes of the first quarter to grab an 8-0 lead, surpassing the 25 minutes it took against Kenyon.

Sophomore Ireland Brown (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) scored both of her goals during the decisive start.

The Flying Dutch also received goals from Hillard, Rott, Julia Brown, junior midfielder Stella Bottum (Alto, Michigan / Caledonia), sophomore midfielder Annie Kipling (Spring Lake, Michigan / Spring Lake), and senior midfielder Sydney LaPrairie (Rochester Hills, Michigan / Stoney Creek) before Piedmont (8-6) broke through with 44 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

It was Hope's first game against the Lions from the USA South Conference.

The Flying Dutch return to action on Wednesday, April 1, at 7 p.m. at Calvin University in a matchup of the top two teams in the 2026 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll. It is the MIAA opener.
