Men's Lacrosse Takes Down Transylvania for 10-0 Start

Attacker Preston Hoexum helped make sure the Hope College men's lacrosse team ended non-conference play at a perfect 10.

The sophomore from Ada, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern) powered the Flying Dutchmen to a 14-7 victory at Transylvania University on Tuesday, scoring a season-high six goals.

Hope heads into MIAA play with a 10-0 record — the best start in program history. The Flying Dutchmen, who tied for first in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, will host Kalamazoo College in the league opener on Saturday, April 4, at 1 p.m. at Van Andel Stadium.

Hoexum netted two goals and assisted on two more during the first half. Hope struck for six unanswered goals for a 6-1 halftime lead against Transylvania, the two-defending Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference Tournament champions.

The Flying Dutchmen sealed the victory with a six-goal fourth quarter.

The win streak is the second-longest in program history. Hope won 15 in a row during the 2018 season after losing the first game.

Hoexum joined junior attacker Gibson Heethuis (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) atop the team scoring lead with 30 goals.

Sophomore midfielder Weston Godbold (Lowell, Michigan / Lowell) chipped in two goals against Transylvania (7-3).

Defensively, Hope held an opponent to fewer than 10 goals for the ninth time this season.

Junior goalie Jack Balmforth (Livonia, Michigan / Detroit Catholic Central) anchored the stellar play with a season-high 19 saves.

Senior defender John Foster (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) recorded a season-high five caused turnovers.
