Men's Golf Takes Early Lead at MIAA Spring Finale, Patrick Michael Fires a 70

The 36-hole, two-day tournament concludes on Thursday

Led by seniors Patrick Michael and Liam Casey, the Hope College men's golf team fired a 290 at HawksHead Links in South Haven and grabbed the first-round lead at the MIAA Spring Finale on Wednesday.

Michael carded a 2-under-par 70 on the 6,915-yard course. The senior from Carmel, Indiana (Carmel) shares the individual lead with three other golfers.

Casey also finished under par and is one stroke off the lead. The senior from Northville, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central), sits in fifth place.

The 36-hole tournament concludes on Thursday, April 30, at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Hope is one stroke ahead of second-place Calvin University and five ahead of third-place Trine University.

The Flying Dutchmen are in third in the 108-hole seasonal standings, 11 strokes behind Calvin and nine behind Trine. The season champion receives the league's automatic berth to next month's NCAA Division III Championships.

Michael shares the individual lead with two golfers from Calvin — Matt Turcotte and Jack Marzolino — and Trine's Garrett James.

Freshman Eli Voisard of Tipp City, Ohio (Tippecanoe) shot even-par and is in sixth place.

Senior Klay Redman of Dublin, Ohio (Dublin Coffman) posted a 73 and is tied for ninth place.

Freshman Joey Blondia of Richland, Michigan (Gull Lake) chipped in a 76. Sophomore Will Thomas of Portage, Michigan (Portage Central) added a 77.
