Four Named MIAA Women's Athletes of the Week

Four Hope College standouts have claimed MIAA Women's Athletes of the Week honors: long-stick midfielder Tyler Berens, defender Lance Hart, and attack Gibson Heethuis in men's lacrosse; midfielder Caroline Curnutt, midfielder Caleigh Randall, and goalie Samantha Smith in women's lacrosse; and Amanda Lopykinski in women's tennis.

Curnutt is the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week for the first time this season and MIAA Athlete of the Week for the third time in her career. The senior elementary education major from Fishers, Indiana (Heritage Christian) excelled during the Flying Dutch's charge to a record fourth consecutive MIAA Tournament championship. Curnutted collected eight draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls over two games. She recorded four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover during an 18-13 victory against Kalamazoo College, then  four draw controls and two caused turnovers during a 16-8 victory against Calvin.

Smith is the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time. The senior exercise science major from Westfield, Indiana (Westfield) posted 13 saves last week. Smith netted five against Kalamazoo and eight against Calvin.

Randall is the MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time and MIAA Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in her career. The senior elementary education major from Lansing, Michigan (DeWitt) contributed 22 draw controls, six goals, four ground balls, one assist and one ground ball last week. Randall netted two goals, one assist, three points, two ground balls, one caused turnover, and 12 draw controls against Kalamazoo, then four goals, two ground balls, and 10 draw controls against Calvin.

Lopykinski is the MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the eighth time in his career. The neuroscience major from Lemont, Illinois (Lemont Township) delivered, after unfinished matches in the MIAA Tournament semifinals, a key 6-4, 6-4 victory over Calvin's Marina Ribeiro at No. 1 singles in the championship match.
