The Hope College women's soccer team picked up its second win of the week Saturday afternoon at Van Andel Stadium, blanking Carthage College 3-0 as part of Orange and Blue Weekend.
The Flying Dutch improved to 2-1-1 on the season with the victory on Orange and Blue Weekend.
Hope had several opportunities early in the game to draw first blood, as the Flying Dutch outshot the Firebirds 8-3 in the first half.
The Orange and Blue finally broke through in the 38
th minute when sophomore
Joanna Namel (South Lyon, Michigan / Saint Catherine of Siena Academy) scored her first goal of the season. Hope led 1-0 at the half.
The Flying Dutch extended their lead midway through the second half when freshman forward
Avery Plummer (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) scored an unassisted goal, the third straight game in which Plummer has scored.
Hope then closed out the scoring in the 82
nd minute on a goal by junior
Heidi Berkey (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven), her first goal of the season. Senior
Halle Barnard (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) set up Berkey's tally.
The Orange and Blue outshot Carthage 15-7 for the contest and had seven corner kicks to three for the Firebirds.
Senior goalkeeper
Clara Feenstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) made four saves in goal for the Flying Dutch in recording her 10
th career shutout.
Hope returns to action Friday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. at Van Andel Stadium against Case Western Reserve University.
