Women’s Golf Places Third at MIAA Jamboree, Moves Within Three Strokes of Overall Lead

The Hope College women's golf team shot 326 on Tuesday at Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck to finish third at the second MIAA Jamboree of the season and move within three strokes of the season lead.

Led by four rounds within one stroke of each other, the Flying Dutch have a 36-hole total of 651 and are tied for third place overall with Trine University. Albion College, which finished first on Tuesday, is at 648, one stroke ahead of Adrian College.

Hope received three 9-over-par 81s from seniors Rachael Jones of Grove City, Ohio (Grove City) and Jaiden Winters of New Carlisle, Indiana (New Prairie), and sophomore Gabby Hanover (Mason, Michigan / Mason).

The Flying Dutch also carded a scoring 82 from senior Kylie Gernaat of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian).

Trine University's Rylee Smith claimed medalist honors by firing a 1-under-par 71 on the 5,629-yard course. Albion shot a 323 round on Tuesday, one stroke better than Trine.

Five more Hope golfers teed off during the jamboree. Sophomore Kennedy Gernaat of Kalamazoo, Michigan (Kalamazoo Christian) shot an 81.

The Flying Dutch received 85s from senior Allyson Zuidema of Northville, Michigan (Northville) and sophomore Leah Krieger of Lowell, Michigan (Lowell), a 93 from sophomore Jozie Mitran of Libertyville, Illinois (Libertyville), and a 94 from freshman Emma Ruszkiewicz of Chelsea, Michigan (Chelsea).

Hope next tees off on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 28-29, at the Bethel University Battle at Blackthorn in South Bend, Ind.
