Becky Schmidt '99 Claims 600th Volleyball Coaching Victory

No. 17 Hope sweeps Monmouth on Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan

The 17th-ranked Hope College volleyball team served head coach Becky Schmidt a milestone 600th coaching victory on Saturday with a three-set sweep of Monmouth College at the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational.

The 25-14, 25-19, 25-12 victory improved Schmidt's collegiate coaching record of 600-176 over 25 combined seasons, including 22 at Hope and three at the University of Redlands in California. Her record with the Flying Dutch is 562-143 and at Redlands 38-33.

The Flying Dutch improved to 1-2 on the season.

Schmidt has guided the Flying Dutch to the NCAA Championships 17 times, winning a national championship in 2014 and finishing national runner-up in 2023. She also guided Hope to eight MIAA regular-season titles and five MIAA Tournament championships.

As a student-athlete, Schmidt played middle blocker and ranked among the NCAA leaders in several statistical categories. A kinesiology major, she was voted the most valuable player in the MIAA as both a junior and senior. As a senior, Schmidt became the first Hope volleyball player to receive NCAA Division III All-American honors. She was also awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
