Flying Dutchmen Second In MIAA Preseason Basketball Poll

The Hope men's basketball team is second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Preseason Coaches Poll announced this morning.

The Flying Dutchmen received two of eight possible first-place votess for 12 points.

Reigning MIAA champion Calvin was chosen to repeat. The Knights, who won both regular-season and conference tournament titles last season, picked up the other six first-place votes and earned eight points. Coaches could not vote for their own team. MIAA teams will tip off their season Nov. 15, with conference play beginning on Jan. 8, 2014.

Hope, led by senior co-captain Caleb Byers of Allegan (Allegan HS), pictured at right, starts on Thursday, Nov. 14 with an exhibition game at Grand Valley State University at 7 p.m.

The Flying Dutchmen tip off the regular season on Nov. 22-23 with games at Wisconsin-Whitewater and Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
