Flying Dutchmen Face Familiar Foe In Cornerstone Tonight

Coach Matt Neil knows what he and the Hope men's basketball team are in for tonight against Cornerstone.

The 6 p.m. championship game at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Tournament will feature a talented foe with many familiar faces, Neil said.

"Wes Hudson is a terrific player. I've been watching him since he was about six," Neil said, referring to the Cornerstone standout. "Grant (Neil) played AAU with him along with a bunch of guys out there. Jake Plite was on that same AAU team. Anthony Allen, the same thing.

"They will come in with some other bigs. We've got to be prepared. I think we'll match up with them a little better when they play some of their bigs. It will be a great test for us."

Cornerstone is 6-2 on the season after Friday's 85-66 win at Hall of Fame Classic host Calvin.

Senior guard Wes Hudson netted a game-high 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field for the Golden Eagles. He buried a team-high 3-pointers against the previously unbeaten Knights.

Sophomore forward Ben Lanning added 20 points while sinking all seven of his free-throw attempts.

Cornerstone raced to a 48-33 halftime lead. The Golden Eagles shot 49.2 percent from the field.
